Atallus strikes!

What does it tell us?

I have chosen two poems and a set of lyrics to explain my topic:

Individuality.

What is individuality, anyway? It is a very important thing, for it is what makes us who we are. Poetry could easily be considered a perfect way to explain individuality, for it transgresses into the mind of the poet. It gives us an in depth view of their memories, dreams and thoughts. All of which makes them an individual. Another means of explaining individuality would be the very lyrics of a song. Lyrics can be vulgar, touching or exciting. There are so many differences, but each song reflects how the artist feels, and what they want to say to the world.

The first poem I will speak of is called "Judge gently."

"Pray don't find fault with the man
who limps or stumbles along the road
Unless you have worn the shoes he wears,
or struggled beneath his load.
There may be tacks in his shoes that hurt,
though hidden away from view,
Or the burden he bears...placed on your back,
might cause you to stumble too."

This poem gives a very powerful message about how we should respect other people. There are so many in this world who are worse off than we are. One thing any of us should never do is absently claim how unlucky we are, or how we should get everything we desire. No. That is not the way to go at all. Never take what you hold close for granted, for what will you do if it all slips away? And just think of how simple things could save a doomed life. The poor man in this poem is sending off intense symbolism of a tragedy. He is weary, and ragged. No one has the right to judge people in situations of poverty, because walking a mile in their shoes would definitely change a few opinions and lives. All this verse is saying is that if we experienced the problems of these people, we would probably not survive half of what they must endure each day.

The next poem is titled "Laughter"
It is only a stanza of 3 lines, but holds much significance.
It goes as follows;

"People laugh at the outsider for what?
A couple minutes of laughter,
That can scar the unpopular for life."

It may be short, but the message given is so truthful that one would have to take these few lines very seriously. As I stated, we are individuals. But, there are many people out there who will willingly scorn, and beat down those who wish to be themselves. This small poem is stating that one chuckle, or mocking laugh from some ignorant fool will weaken the hopes and dreams of someone who wants to go their own way. If these negative comments continue, the dreams of that poor individual being picked on will be gone forever.

Personally, I think popularity can be shoved. There is no such thing as someone being better, or worse. We are who we are, and no one has any right to trash talk someone who takes an alternative route to their goals.

Finally, the set of lyrics I have chosen were those of Enigma. The song is titled "Return to Innocence." A few lyrics go as followed;

"Don't be afraid to be weak
Don't be too proud to be strong
Just look into your heart my friend
That will be the return to yourself
The return to innocence.

If you want, then start to laugh
If you must, then start to cry
Be yourself don't hide
Just believe in destiny.

Don't care what people say
Just follow your own way
Don't give up and use the chance
To return to innocence."

This song is deep, and beautiful. I believe it teaches a very important lesson, and tells us all the things which are meant to be heard. The message being sent across is simply to be yourself, and don't let anyone get in your way.

Enigma has spoken truthfully of what it means to be a person, and how we have to believe in what fate, or destiny has in store for each and every one of us. Humans aren't meant to alter fate, by means of technology, intelligence or poisonous tongues. Individuality is slowly fading, as people become more racist and influenced by movies. Seeing the so-called 'perfect' and 'gorgeous' people on television tells some what people should be like. What a load of bull. These type of people deserve to be exploited for how fake they really are. Assholes.

In closure, these lyrics tell us to return to the innocence within ourselves which drives us to do good and never hurt others who grow and learn alongside us. There is so much injustice in this world, and the silent voices of poetry and song are some of the few ways we can learn about one another, and understand that variety is the spice of life.
