Lest I forget my original homeland, Cape Breton. That beautiful little extremity of rocks, scenery and culture which rests in the Atlantic, on Canada's eastern coast. I grew up here, and even though I've been away for a few years, I will always miss Cape Breton. I am a Caper at heart, as it has been for years and always will be.
This place holds many differences, compared to British Columbia. Jagged mountains are replaced by soft, sun-kissed coastlines. The ocean freezes during the winter, giving way to a vast horizon of whiteness, while the sunsets always remain magnificant. This is my home, Cape Breton Island.
(NOTE: Many of these pictures are here, all due to the help of a friend known as Wilfred, known by most as Woo. Living back in Cape Breton, he and my father are able to send me digital images of my old haunt. Without their help, most of these pictures wouldn't be here today. Thank you VERY much, guys! All credit does to the both of you.)

"Atlantic sunset."
Taken during a summer evening, here is a sunset on the Atlantic.
"Another sunset."
Same time, place and day. Different shot.
"South Bar."
A small harbour in South Bar, along the Shore Road. Again, in the evening. Beautiful. I always loved this area.
"The Shore Road."
My favorite driving route. This is the Shore Road (A.K.A Daley Rd.), which leads into South Bar and Whitney Pier. St. Alphonsus, the stone church, can be seen in here. Along with Fort Petrie. One can definitely tell what kind of place Cape Breton is, by this image. Small houses along the oceanside, like it has been for centuries, housing fishermen and coal miners especially.
"Ben Eion."
A shot of the Bras'Dor lakes, taken from my grandparents' former bungalow, in Ben Eion. Dusk.
"Lingan Mines."
Lingan Colliery, just at the tip of New Waterford. You can see this place in the two aerial shots, below.
"New Waterford - Airscapes."
The following photos are NOT MINE. These are aerial images of my home town, New Waterford. I love these! The channel to the east of the Power plant is the sand bar, while that other little section of the island consists of Glace Bay and Dominion.
"New Waterford, again."
Like the one above, NOT mine. Same as previous, new angle. That big, brown building at the very tip with the two big smoke stacks is the Nova Scotia Power Plant. The 'circular' area, to the north with the cylinder-shaped silo, is Lingan Colliery. While northward from there would be the actual town. To any of my British Columbian friends who see these two pictures...... told you it was flat! ^_^
"Lighthouse at Low Point."
As stated, this little beauty is situated at Low Point. Looks absolutely gorgeous on the horison, during sunsets.
"Breton Education Centre."
My old school! I've since graduated from a school out here in BC, but I'll always miss this old haunt. Many good memories, from my three years there.
"BEC, again."
Another shot of Breton Education Centre, being the 'cafeteria entrance'.
"And again."
Final shot of BEC. There's it's logo!
"The Community Center."
Just adjacent to BEC, sits the Community Center/Rink. I frequented that place a lot, when I was little.
"Plummer Avenue."
Ahhh.. the main drag. This place used to be very busy and lively, in earlier years... but since the mine closures and such, many businesses and people have left. A sad sight, but alas... people still roam this stretch. It is still historical and special.
"The drag, again."
Plummer Avenue again, silouetted in a sunset.
"Timeless."
A lonely old house, overlooking the shoreline. Just in front of Lingan Colliery. This picture has been tinted black and white, for mood. Personally, this is one of my favorites. Beautiful.
"Timeless - v.2."
Same picture as above, only in color.
"The old Playground."
This sight still breaks my heart, years after I left it. This is the playground at the end of Amelia Street, in Scotchtown. As a child, I would come here every day, during the times in which it was maintained, filled with kids and generally a fun place to be. It used to be my escape, my 'safe place'... simply a place in which to be a kid. These days, it is pretty much neglected, since it's younger visitors have all grown up. The state it is in isn't too lovely, but still... it will always remain 'my playground'.
"The Water Tank."
Northwest of the aforementioned playground sits this old thing. The New Waterford Water Tank. I always used to ride up along that way on my bike... although... standing next to it always freaked me out. ^_^;
"Beautiful Horizon."
Taken just off of the bank, by Fort Petrie. A gorgeous sunset, over the Atlantic. The sky is simply -beautiful-.
"The Lord."
In the summer of 2003, my folks and I took a month-long vacation: a few days in British Columbia's mainland (Kelowna, etc...) ... then, close to a week in Alberta. (Calgary, Innisfail.) Shortly after, we made the loooong flight to Cape Breton... and thus embarked onto yet another visit! My first visit back was in 2001... my second was this one, in 2003... two years later. You wouldn't BELIEVE how things can change in two years... even though my home town, New Waterford, has stayed the same for decades. This is an image of one of the many Jesus statues that are found within my predominantly Roman Catholic nest; in graveyards, mostly. Our Lord is a very prominant presence in our lives, back East... and he is celebrated in many different ways, yearlong. These life-like statues that are slung upon the cross are such examples; the realistic value of this statue is breathtaking... almost eerie. You can see his eyes.. ribs... EVERYTHING. This one, here, was found in the St. Agnes Graveyard, near my old school. More photos of this 2003 visit will be posted, as I scan them.
"The Lord - 2."
Another statue of the Lord, this time... found near Inverness, C.B. (I believe.)
